Questionnaire Analysis

Location, Props and Models

Location/props/models

Location

I've decided to do my photoshoot in a studio environment at college, this is due to the fact I don't want the background to deter from the model in view. I also wanted it to look professional and after researching fashion magazines most of the pictures they use are also took in a studio this makes the model the main focus on the cover. This also gives the impression of higher quality and a more prestigious implication.

Props

Props include stylistic clothing, my model was wearing a black and white jumper this suggests it’s a winter issue but also white and black were the main two colours on trend in the winter of 2013. This signifies that my magazine is a fashion based. She also wore a pink lipstick this is because the main colour on my magazine is pink so it created a sense of unity and professionalism. The choice of prop will intensify the fashion implication within my products as well as it allows the audience to retrieve the implication that my magazine is upper-class.

Models

As for my model, I will only be using one throughout the whole magazine. She will be the representation of the main coverline on the front cover and will further be interviewed for my feature article. I decided to only use one as it intensifies her importance and role within my magazine. Also by using an attractive female model on the front cover this will get the audience to be attracted to it and purchase my magazine because the female audience will want to look like my model and therefore buy the magazine to find out more.

Original ideas statement

Original ideas statement

Working title of my magazine is Curve. I came up with this name because woman have curves therefore I thought this would be eye catching to woman that may desire another body or are curios to what Curve may be about. I will also use very feminine colours to show the costumer its targetted at woman. This title suits the target audience I am trying to make my magazine appeal to. I'm targeting this magazine to a female demographics these woman are aged 19-24 years of age. This fits into the ABC1 psychographics. I mainly want it to focus on women's fashion, beauty, health and music. These woman are interested in the music industry and have a great knowledge and understanding. They're interested in Pop and Acoustic genres. My target audience is attracted to upper-class brands such as Starbucks and MAC cosmetics these are brands that are commonly used and consumed by my target audience. This magazine will be about £2-£3, being that it will be slightly aimed at a upper class market this is a perfect price for woman that are quickly rushing to get a magazine for work to read on their lunch break! Survey monkey helped me a lot when it came to deciding what I wanted to do my magazine about after getting feedback from others I realised that fashion in a magazine is very desired and that's where I got my ideas from. I also looked at other fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle, these are the magazines that expired the layout of my magazine and fonts used.

Font board

I have gave an example of 13 different font types, however I know I want a clean spaced out font not bold or interesting just very simple. Because my magazine is majorly aimed at women this will give them a sense of classiness. However I do want it to still be eye catching and attract the audience.

Colour chart

I have picked 4 different sets of colours that I am possibly going to use for my music magazine. The first set of 4 colours are very bright compared to all the other sets, bright simple colours such as blue and green can make the magazine bright but also very plain at the same and that's what I'm aiming to achieve. My favourite set of colours is the top right one. I think the colours go well together and show the classiness I want for my magazine as it is mostly aimed at women. They’re also very simple colours and the burgundy will make the font stand out and make it eye catching for the reader.

Advertisement brands

Most of the brands that i have picked are clothes/make up brands as that is what women are insterested in reading mostly. There is a range of expensive and low cost brands as women always like a good bargain.

Target Audience

My magazine is aimed at a feminine audience aged between from 16-25 years old. These are women that like to take care of themselves and enjoy going to festivals as they are still young. Most of these women will have jobs therefore they can afford some expensive products but mostly go to high street shops. They like to be on trend and be very girly. They listen to acoustic/indie music. This magazine will attract a mass audince as it covers a lot of different topics.

Full Magazine Analysis

For my full magazine analysis I will be writing about Kerrang. Kerrang has over 30 years of heritage and it’s the biggest music weekly in the world. It researches more young readers than any other music magazine. Having a younger profile is a big advantage as traditionally this age group is elusive and expensive to reach. The Kerrang readership is 345,000. The mean age of the reader is 25 years old. Kerrang is the original multimedia platform boasting magazine, online, radio, TV, K! Awards, K! Tour and K! Podcasts. Kerrang is mostly rock genre. Kerrang readers are the heaviest music consumers over 6 albums per month on average and 8 times more likely to spend over £200 a year on albums. They are also 5.5 more likely to attend a rock gig. James McMahon was voted editor of the year at the record of the day music journalism and PR awards 2012.
The Kerrang reader is roughly 25 years old, loves rock music, listens to music very often, attends gigs regularly, likes to play instruments, likes to be independent, the music he listens to influences the way he dresses. The way he looks and the clothes he wears are integral to communicating ‘his identity’ to the world. Kerrang is partnered with Paco Rabanne to promote Black XS with a cross media campaign to give readers the chance to enter to win a recording deal with Search & Destroy Records. Kerrang scores 69% for influence VS Bauer ACT tracker: 15-40. Consumer brands that have used Kerrang in the last 12 months include LG, Orange and national express.  One of Kerrang's case studies was Biffy Clyro EP. Kerrang negotiated a free exclusive Biffy Clyro EP download cover mount with all 12,000 downloads being redeemed on the first day.
Kerrang brand extensions are Download festival as Kerrang is the official media partner with Download festival. It has exclusive media coverage. Also Kerrang radio has 1.3 million listeners; it’s the biggest commercial radio station outside London. There is also Kerrang TV. It attracts 1.6 million viewers every month and 730,000 are adults aged 16-34 years of age. It has 175,000 unique users, 450,000 page impressions, 307,244 twitter followers and 291,720 Facebook fans. This signifies that Kerrang attracts a mass audience.
The advertising rates for Kerrang are also very expensive as it attracts a wide range of readers. For example the display would cost: Full Page Fh £3,025
Full Page roP £2,750
halF Page £1,512
iBc/ oBc £3,575
DPs Fh £5,748
DPs roP £5,225

Kerrang also works with Bauer media group, one of the biggest organisations in the media industry.
